LITTLE FRIENDS LEARNING LOFT

More Info

Welcome!

Welcome to Little Friends Learning Loft at Newburgh JCC where we encourage imaginative play and child-led learning through the Montessori method. We promote experiential learning and outdoor play utilizing sand, gardening, the playground and grassy areas. We introduce literacy, early phonics, numbers and letters. We practice motor skills, explore life cycles and nourish a spiritual sense of wonder and respect for our natural world and its inhabitants. We create and craft in the art house and dance in the studio. In inclement weather, children play in our gym to promote physical wellness. Providing these introductions and promoting a self-paced learning environment will encourage autonomy and character development.

Our Mission

Our intentional and nurturing environment is founded on the Montessori principles of hands-on learning, self-discovery, cooperation and independence. The multi-age (3-6 age) group benefits apply to all; younger children learn by observing their older classmates and older children gain the satisfaction and confidence that comes from providing support and encouragement.

Years 1,2 and 3 are designed to help students reach multiple tiers of educational, social and emotional goals at a pace befitting each individual learner. At Little Friends Learning Loft, we are all passionate about providing a safe setting that ensures peace, empathy and compassion. Respect is modeled, taught and practiced.

About our staff

What we love about our Teaching Lead, Rebecca Harrison, is her kind, genuine manner in receiving and responding to our little learners. She brings calm to the classroom and a passion for the content she presents. She is deeply committed to the Four Processes of Montessori and has designed aspects of the classroom herself to ensure an authentic experience for her students.

Rebecca has a keen eye for art and earned a Bachelor's Degree of Fine Arts and Art Education from the School of Visual Arts.  She completed her AMS Early Childhood Montessori Primary Certification from CMTE at the College of New Rochelle.

She lives in the City of Newburgh with her husband and two young daughters Olive and Lou Eleanour. She loves tending to her garden, field trips to the local library, and exploring all the Hudson Valley has to offer. Rebecca is very passionate about fostering every child's curiosity.
